Why Health Point?

Health Point is a free drop-in clinic. Our goal is to advocate for our clients and help them overcome barriers to accessing the healthcare they are entitled to. We help clients navigate the NHS, understand their options and access their own GP.

The service was established in 2022 in response to concerns that our clients were experiencing difficulties accessing essential healthcare due to language barriers, limited access to IT, and challenges understanding and navigating the NHS.

How the clinic works:

Health Point runs every Tuesday from 09:30 to 13:00, and is staffed by volunteer GPs and mental health professionals.

We encourage people to come early, as the clinic can become busy and we may not always be able to see everyone who attends. If we are unable to see someone on the day, we encourage them to return the following Tuesday.

Health Point is a support service, rather than a replacement for a client's own GP or NHS services.

We are unable to prescribe medication or provide ongoing medical treatment.
We are also unable to make referrals to certain hospital specialists directly

We offer

  • Advice and signposting to appropriate physical, mental and dental health services
  • Women's health advice
  • Referrals to relevant community services
  • Support with healthcare-related letters and documentation
  • Sexual health and contraception advice, including signposting to local services

We believe that everyone should be able to understand and access the healthcare they need, regardless of their circumstances or the barriers they face.

The project was founded by Rosie Isaacs, a local GP and advocate.

"It has been a fantastic privilege to work alongside DCRS to support people in navigating the U.K healthcare system which can be complicated, particularly if English is not your first language. Our vision is to fully embed this vital service in our community so that refugees and asylum seekers can access the healthcare services that they need in a timely fashion and with ease. Alongside medical signposting we are developing dental support as well as access to alternative therapies."
