Why Wellbeing?

We prioritise being a holistic supporting presence for our services users, helping them to develop their lives in their new home so that they can set down real roots once they have been granted sanctuary.

Our approach to delivering activities, classes, and vocational training is designed to address these needs, and emphasises:

  • Getting to know Plymouth in a fun, interactive way.
  • Making new social connections.
  • Learn new skills that broaden employment options once our clients have the right to work.
  • Mental health support through access to blue and green spaces, as well as a community of structure.

  • "Yesterday is the happiest I have been in a long time. I will always remember that day."

Our activities have included an ongoing weekly arts programme with courses in photography, print-making, crafts, sewing, learning music, basketball, bowling, visits to the cinema, cooking and gardening.

Our programme has enabled people to access nature during walks on the South West Coastal Path, trips to Dartmoor, cycling around and outside the city, and canoeing on the River Dart. On top of this we have supported physical health with cycling and swimming lessons, and have started a scheme through which people can access the University of Plymouth Students Union gym.
